The CM1 and CE2 classes have been busy over the past two periods working within guided reading groups with Emily Geckle, an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher who specialises in literacy instruction. Within these small groups students look more closely at the texts they are reading to activate background knowledge, learn new vocabulary, and have discussions to ensure they understand what they are reading. They have also actively put into practice reading comprehension skills such as making connections, inferring meanings within context, summarising, and identifying cause and effect.
